A man who was undergoing treatment following a road accident in Hulhumalé Phase 2 on August 31 passed away last night.
The victim, identified as 62-year-old Mohamed Afeef from Maajehige, Lhaviyani Kurendhoo, was riding a motorcycle when it collided with a car at the intersection of Dhunburigas Magu and Heenaamaa Hingun in Hulhumalé Phase 2.
Afeef passed away while receiving intensive care at Tree Top Hospital, where he had been transferred after initial treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital.
A former teacher who served in various schools, Afeef’s funeral prayer is scheduled to be held at the Hulhumalé Cemetery Mosque following the Dhuhr prayer today.
The accident also resulted in injuries to a 24-year-old passenger on the motorcycle. Adhadhu understands that the passenger is Afeef’s son.
This marks the second road fatality in Hulhumalé within a month. On August 29, a nine-year-old child also lost her life in a separate accident in the suburb.
Police statistics show that 2,126 accidents have been reported so far this year, with 94 cases reported within this month alone.
