Adhadhu has learnt that President Mohamed Muizzu is set to be presented with an award by Housing Minister Abdulla Muththalib at the Engineering Awards ceremony scheduled for Thursday.

Sources said that the award is being conferred on Muizzu in recognition of his contributions to the field of engineering.

Last year, Muizzu designated August 30 as National Engineers' Day. He also made the decision to hold an annual Engineering Awards ceremony.

The President's Office and the Housing Ministry have yet to comment on the matter despite inquiries.

For the upcoming ceremony, the Housing Ministry ordered the removal of references to former Presidents Ibrahim Nasir and Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, as well as Al-Ameer Mohamed Fareed Didi, from a speech to be delivered by a Maldives Polytechnic student. The ministry directed that the speech focus solely on Muizzu.

Organized by the Housing Ministry, the Engineers' Awards will be held under the theme "Honoring Excellence, Making History." Awards are scheduled to be presented across 10 different categories.

As National Engineers' Day is observed this year, state broadcaster PSM and pro-government media outlets have been actively praising the President’s contributions to the sector. Additionally, the President's Office has produced a promotional video highlighting Muizzu’s professional service in engineering.
