The Parliamentary Group Leader of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) Ibrahim Falah has said that the applause from supporters at the mention of President Mohamed Muizzu’s name mirrors the style of applause seen in North Korea.
Speaking at a PNC rally, Falah remarked that the way supporters clap when the President’s name is invoked demonstrates their deep affection for him. He claimed there is a difference between the applause received by former President Abdulla Yameen and that given to Muizzu.
"You are giving a genuine round of applause. The way you clap shows just how much you love our President. There is a vast difference between the applause for Yameen and the way you react when our current President is mentioned," Falah said.
"When I mention our current President’s name, the way you clap with such love is reminiscent of how they do it in North Korea. It is a very beautiful sight."
Falah suggested that the manner in which Yameen’s supporters clap indicates public dissatisfaction, describing their style of applause as noticeably poor.
While Falah praised the North Korean style of applause as "beautiful," the nation is a communist state widely recognized as one of the three most authoritarian regimes in the world.
Additionally, Falah noted that happiness and smiles are visible on the faces of PNC supporters, including both the party leadership and its general membership.
