The President’s Office is conducting criminal record checks on individuals scheduled to meet President Mohamed Muizzu under the "Rayyithunge Adu" program.
A reliable source informed Adhadhu that the President’s Office requests criminal background checks for participants ahead of every session. The source further noted that these screenings are conducted without the knowledge of the participants.
"The individuals meeting the President are unaware of this. Furthermore, the official guidelines for the program make no mention of such a requirement," the source said.
According to the guidelines published by the President’s Office, those applying to participate in the program are only required to submit their name, a copy of their national identity card, permanent address, current address, constituency, phone number, email, and the topic they wish to discuss.
The published regulations do not state that any additional personal information or background data will be collected from applicants.
Under the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, the right to privacy and the protection of personal information are guaranteed. Accessing or investigating an individual's private records without their consent is a legal violation.
Efforts to obtain a comment from the President’s Office regarding this matter have so far been unsuccessful.
