Maldives Premier Bank, founded by prominent businessman and President Mohamed Muizzu's Trade Advisor Mohamed Ali Janah, officially opened its first outlet yesterday.

The bank, located at Henveiru Sunleeth on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, was inaugurated by the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Ahmed Munawar.

The bank’s chairperson is Janah’s daughter, Aisha Nurain Janah, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

Maldives Premier Bank marks the ninth commercial bank to operate in the country. It has been granted a Tier 1 banking license to conduct its operations.

According to the business registry, Janah is listed as the sole shareholder of the bank. Joining Nurain on the Board of Directors are Ismail Ali Manik, Raheema Saleem, Mariyam Shahida Mohamed, Mohamed Hussain Manik, and Sujatha Haleem, who resigned as the CEO of the Pension Office in February.

Janah, who was appointed as Muizzu’s Principal Advisor on Trade and Investment at ministerial rank, began his business career in 1987 with Hotels and Resorts Construction (HRC). Starting with small-scale projects, Mohamed Ali Janah has since become a titan in the Maldivian construction and tourism industries, having worked on 52 resort projects.

He has played a pivotal role in realizing multi-million dollar investments for some of the world’s leading hospitality brands, including Soneva, Four Seasons, and Shangri-La.

With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Janah has served six terms as the President of the Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI), a position he continues to hold today. He was appointed as an advisor to Muizzu on November 17, 2023.
