President Mohamed Muizzu said last night that various international figures he encounters have expressed high praise for his leadership.
Speaking at a political rally organized by the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) in Alif Alif Ukulhas, Muizzu noted that foreign dignitaries commend him for prioritizing decisions that benefit the nation, even when those choices may not be politically popular.
"Many international parties I meet tell me that leaders who work this way are very rare globally. Prioritizing the nation over political popularity is not always the common path. However, they recognize that these decisions are what will truly benefit the country in a meaningful and sustainable way for generations to come. They say very few leaders prioritize such long-term national interests," he said.
Muizzu further explained that he has made several decisions for the betterment of the country despite knowing they might face public disapproval. He added that efforts are underway to strengthen the nation's social fabric and improve overall governance.
While the President highlighted the praise he receives from abroad, some of his administration's decisions have previously drawn concern and condemnation from various international organizations. Additionally, diplomatic ties between the Maldives and Mauritius were severed following policy shifts under his leadership.
Muizzu traveled to Ukulhas to attend the closing of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Supreme Audit Institutions Symposium and the opening of the INTOSAI Development Initiative Global Summit. During the visit, he also inaugurated several development projects and participated in the ruling party's political gathering.
