Seventeen empty containers being transported by the Maldives State Shipping (MSS) vessel, MSS Graphene, have fallen overboard near the port of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
According to Sri Lankan media reports, the incident occurred yesterday approximately 17 miles off the coast of Colombo Port. No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
Sri Lankan news outlets reported that the containers were lost overboard due to rough sea conditions. The Sri Lankan Coast Guard has issued an advisory urging vessels in the area to remain vigilant of the drifting containers.
The MSS Graphene was en route from Male' to Colombo when the incident took place. The vessel had departed from Male' last Tuesday.
The Graphene is part of the cargo fleet operated by Maldives State Shipping, a subsidiary of the State Trading Organization (STO). The vessel measures 142 meters in length and 18 meters in width.
