Renowned volleyball players Ahmed Fairooz and Ahmed Fazil, along with a third individual, were arrested last Thursday in Vaavu Keyodhoo in connection with an assault.
Police confirmed that a 58-year-old Maldivian man sustained injuries in the incident. He was treated at the Keyodhoo Health Center and has since been discharged.
In addition to the two brothers, Fairooz and Fazil, the police also arrested an individual named Mohamedfulhu. Following their court appearance, two of the suspects were remanded in custody for five days, while the third was given a three-day remand period.
Adhadhu understands that the assault took place near a cafe in Keyodhoo. Fairooz, Fazil, and Mohamedfulhu allegedly knocked the 58-year-old man to the ground and physically assaulted him.
Fairooz is a regular player for the Maldives National Volleyball Team. He also serves as the Youth President for the Keyodhoo constituency of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).
It remains unclear whether the national volleyball team has taken any disciplinary action against Fairooz following the incident. However, it is expected that the team management will review the matter.
Fazil is also a former national team player who continues to compete at the national level.
