The National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) has met with the UK High Commissioner to the Maldives, Nick Low, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.
The NCTC delegation at the meeting was led by Director General, Major General (Retd) Wais Waheed.
During the meeting, both parties discussed mutual priorities and potential areas for further cooperation. Further details regarding the meeting have not been disclosed.
The Maldives and the United Kingdom maintain close cooperation in counter-terrorism. Last year, the UK government conducted the "International Protect and Prepare" program for the Maldives Police Service.
Police stated that the program provided training on maintaining alertness in the event of a terrorist attack in the Maldives and developing skills to respond effectively to such threats.
Additionally, a senior member of the UK’s National Counter Terrorism Unit met with the Maldivian Commissioner of Police last month.
