Ismail Abdul Raheem (Isu), the Deputy Director of Hulhumale' Operations at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), has been hospitalized following an assault in Hulhumale'.
Police said they received a report of an altercation in the reclaimed area of Farukolhufushi at approximately 06:37 pm today. According to the authorities, two men, aged 21 and 34, sustained injuries during the incident.
The police confirmed that the injuries are not life-threatening. While no arrests have been made so far, an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Isu was previously a person of interest in the investigation into the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla and the murder of blogger Yameen Rasheed. He had also faced charges in connection with the Rilwan case.
More recently, Isu has been seen alongside President Mohamed Muizzu and has been an active figure in the People's National Congress (PNC) campaigns. He had also been seeking an internal position within the party.
