UWC Maldives has facilitated opportunities for four Maldivian students to pursue their higher secondary education abroad.

The scholarship recipients are set to study at United World Colleges (UWC) located in the United States, Japan, Armenia, and Eswatini.

UWC is a globally recognized institution known for its exemplary educational model. With 18 colleges worldwide, students complete a two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. This qualification is equivalent to A-Levels and is recognized by universities globally, as well as by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA).

The four students selected by UWC Maldives and their respective placements are:

● Fathimath Sasha Farhath (Ghazee School) – UWC ISAK Japan.

● Fathimath Fariha Fayaz (Aminiya School) – UWC Dilijan, Armenia.

● Jiyan Ahmed Saeed (Aminiya School) – UWC Waterford Kamhlaba, Eswatini.

● Aminath Ula Ahmed (Finland International School) – UWC-USA, United States.

Izman Suhail, the Selections Coordinator for UWC Maldives, said that the education provided by UWC offers a unique and invaluable opportunity for students to build their character and develop their skills.

UWC Maldives serves as the national committee representing UWC schools in the Maldives. The scholarship program is conducted with the generous support of the Alifulhu Thuhthu Foundation and the UWC International Organization. This opportunity is opened annually for Maldivian students who have completed Grade 10.

Since 2001, more than 70 Maldivian students have pursued their education through these scholarships. Nearly all students who complete the two-year UWC term have gone on to secure further scholarships for higher education, with a significant number of them studying at universities in the United States.

Currently, three Maldivian students are studying under this scholarship program at UWC campuses in Canada, India, and Hong Kong. Additionally, two students who completed their studies in Germany and China have successfully secured further higher education opportunities at universities in the United States.
