Former President Mohamed Nasheed, the newly elected Chairperson of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), is scheduled to meet with the party’s leadership today.

Sources informed Adhadhu that Nasheed is set to meet with MDP President Abdulla Shahid at 10:30 am today. He is also scheduled to meet with Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, who contested against him for the chairperson post, at 1:00 pm.

Additionally, Nasheed is expected to hold a meeting with the leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, MP Ibrahim Nazil, later today.

However, as former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is traveling out of Male' today, it is understood that Nasheed will meet with him upon his return to the capital.

Following his victory in Friday’s election, Nasheed met with the MDP’s administrative staff yesterday.

Nasheed secured the chairperson position with 68.9 percent of the vote, receiving 21,301 votes out of the 30,895 cast. His opponent, Meekail, received 9,462 votes, accounting for approximately 30 percent.

After his election win, Nasheed spoke with Meekail and affirmed his commitment to working together to advance the party’s objectives.
