Home Minister Ali Ihusaan has dismissed allegations made by former Controller of Immigration Shamman Waheed as baseless, stating that he has instructed the Maldives Police Service to clarify the facts of the case.
On Tuesday, Shamman was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of misusing his official position to extort money from a foreign national.

Former Immigration chief Shamman Waheed has accused President Muizzu of complicity in Home Minister Ali Ihusaan’s alleged corruption regarding work permit bribes. Shamman claims he was framed after informing the President of the schemes. He now faces multiple charges, including money laundering, following his dismissal and arrest.
In a post on X, Ihusaan characterized Shamman’s claims against him as unsubstantiated lies. He noted that he had previously addressed and refuted these allegations in the media.
"The evidence gathered by the police in this case clearly demonstrates that the claims of Shamman being framed have never had any factual basis," he stated.
"I have requested the police institution to provide the public with a detailed clarification of the events surrounding this case."
The 25-year sentence handed down by the Criminal Court follows Shamman's conviction on charges of robbery, abuse of official authority, and money laundering.
