The annual "Mashi Maali" parade, held in Haa Dhaal Kulhudhuffushi to celebrate Eid al-Adha, has showcased political messages through a satirical lens.
One of the highlights of this year’s parade was titled "Emanjege Phone" (That Girl's Phone). The display was based on recent sexual misconduct allegations directed at President Mohamed Muizzu.
The float depicted various reasons for the 58 phone calls made to a former female employee of the President’s Office. Among the satirical reasons listed on the float were calls made to check "if she was wearing a nighty" and "if she had brushed her teeth."
Several other displays also targeted allegations against Muizzu, including floats featuring sofas and a "Second Wedding Feast." A character dubbed "The Midnight Caller" was also featured in the procession.

The parade also included a depiction of Mohamed Shahzan, a journalist from Adhadhu who was recently jailed for questioning the President about these allegations. The performer was shown with chains around his neck, holding a microphone made from a breadfruit.
Government spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) was also a subject of satire. One float referenced his recent invitation to "come and debate," featuring a performer resembling Mundhu seated in a chair.
Sports fans also joined the festivities, with a segment dedicated to Arsenal's Premier League win. Two individuals in Arsenal jerseys carried a large cooking pot labelled "We got the trophy," mocking the team's title drought.
The Mashi Maali parade further highlighted several pressing national issues. These included the stagnation of development projects, unfulfilled presidential pledges, and ongoing electricity supply problems.
