The Criminal Court has granted Adhadhu journalist Leevan Ali Nasir just two hours to appoint legal counsel after he was summoned for reporting on a court order prohibiting discussion of the "Aisha" documentary.
The documentary is central to criminal charges filed against Adhadhu’s CEO, Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, and Editor, Hassan Mohamed.
Leevan appeared in court at 11:00 am today without legal representation. He requested the court provide additional time to secure a lawyer.
The presiding bench of judges decided to grant only a two-hour window to appoint counsel, despite Leevan’s request for a 10-day period to make the necessary arrangements.
Another Adhadhu journalist, Mohamed Shahzan, has also been summoned to appear in court today. He is accused of contempt of court for questions posed to President Mohamed Muizzu.
The Criminal Court’s "gag order" strictly prohibits the circulation of the "Aisha" documentary and bans any party from discussing its contents, either directly or indirectly.
