Police have remained silent regarding whether a statement was recorded from President Mohamed Muizzu for the investigation into Adhadhu's "Aisha" documentary.
Hussain Shameem, the legal counsel for a former President's Office employee summoned for questioning, said that police had informed him that a statement was taken from the President.
However, despite inquiries made by Adhadhu, no response has been received by the time of publication. When questioned, a police media official stated they would provide an answer after looking into the matter.
The police launched an investigation into the "Aisha" documentary a month after its release, only after Adhadhu questioned Muizzu regarding the allegations of sexual misconduct.
The order to investigate the documentary was issued by Muizzu himself. Within hours of his directive, police raided the Adhadhu office and seized laptops and hard drives.
In addition to the raid, the Criminal Court issued orders to withhold the passports of Adhadhu’s CEO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa and Managing Editor Hassan Mohamed at the request of the police. Both Fiyaz and Hassan were summoned to police headquarters last week for questioning.
Furthermore, police have withheld the passport of the former President's Office employee under a court order. While her statement was recorded yesterday, her legal team noted that police did not provide her with the opportunity to speak in her defence.
