Aminath Shirna, the State Minister for Health, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).

The CEO position at NSPA became vacant following the appointment of the former head, Heena Waleed, as the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage on April 14. She assumed the ministerial role after resigning from her positions as NSPA CEO and Chief Government Spokesperson.

Prior to her appointment as NSPA CEO, Shirna’s initial primary responsibility as State Minister within this administration was overseeing the Maldives Blood Services (Thalassemia Center).

During her tenure managing the facility, Shirna faced public backlash from service seekers due to deteriorating conditions at the Thalassemia Center.

Public calls for Shirna’s resignation intensified at the time following recurring issues, including shortages of essential medication and the disposal of blood bags due to malfunctioning filters.
