Police have seized the passport of Adhadhu Editor Hassan Mohamed in connection with a criminal investigation into the "Aisha" documentary.
According to the Criminal Court order, the passport was confiscated based on police intelligence suggesting that Hassan was preparing to flee the country. The intelligence report remains the sole piece of evidence cited for the travel ban.
Hassan is the second Adhadhu employee to have his passport seized for a three-month period in relation to this case. Last night, the police also obtained a three-month travel ban against CEO, Hussain Fiyaz Moosa.
The criminal investigation into the "Aisha" documentary began a month after its release, following questions posed to President Mohamed Muizzu yesterday regarding allegations made against him in the film. In his response, the President denied the allegations and called for legal action to be pursued in the matter.
Police allege that Adhadhu committed "Qazf" (false accusation of adultery or fornication) against Muizzu in the documentary. In seeking the court order, police stated that everyone involved in the production and publication of the documentary is a suspect in the alleged crime.
As part of the investigation, police raided the Adhadhu office last night under a court order, seizing electronic equipment.
