A series of offensive social media posts by Ali Shareef, who was appointed as the Minister of Climate Change on Tuesday, has resurfaced and is circulating widely online.
The posts were previously posted by Shareef on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Adhadhu has confirmed that the account belongs to him.
Among the controversial posts are comments mocking the physical disability of former MP Ibrahim Ismail (Ibra), a post labeling former President Mohamed Nasheed an apostate, and another suggesting that women who do not wear the hijab are "inviting" harassment.
"He should be grateful to Allah for sparing his remaining limbs," Shareef wrote in one post directed at Ibra.
Furthermore, Shareef’s history includes posts labeling Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a terrorist, expressing a rejection of the democratic system, and using profanity against various individuals.
The resurfacing of these posts has sparked significant public backlash. Some have directed their criticism toward President Mohamed Muizzu for appointing Shareef to the cabinet.
"This is shameful, Muizzu. Appointing such undisciplined people to ministerial positions will only lead to failure," one user posted on X.
