Former Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Fayyaz Ismail, has called for all-party talks to address the economic and administrative challenges currently facing the Maldives.

The call comes following a major cabinet reshuffle earlier today. Under the direction of President Mohamed Muizzu, ten cabinet ministers have tendered their resignations.

In a post on social media X, Fayyaz stated that the near-total overhaul of the cabinet cannot be viewed as an isolated incident. He further asserted that this development serves as evidence of declining public support for the government.

"I call upon President Muizzu to bring all political parties to the table to find solutions for the economic and administrative issues facing the Maldives," Fayyaz said.

He urged the government to prioritize national interests at a time when the country's financial situation remains precarious and global tensions are on the rise.

He emphasized that the most critical priority for the nation right now is to set aside political differences and work collectively on major national issues.

Yesterday, MDP Chairperson Abdul Ghafoor Moosa also called for dialogue between parties to resolve concerns regarding constitutional amendments passed by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), which holds a supermajority in Parliament.

While senior opposition figures continue to advocate for inclusive dialogue, the government has yet to issue an official response to these calls.
