Ahmed Mohamed (Two Four), who was previously dismissed from the Maldives Police Service, is to be appointed as the new Police Commissioner.

He was dismissed during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih because the police law required action against senior police officers accused of serious crimes.

Police also investigated a case of alleged corruption involving Ahmed Mohamed in the purchase of speedboats for the police force. The case has recently been referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

He was reinstated and appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police after President Mohamed Muizzu assumed office in November 2023.

The police board recommended his dismissal on August 9, 2021, after taking into account the allegations of taking bribes from the police. He was fired on October 10, 2021, in accordance with the recommendation.

Ahmed Mohamed is the third police commissioner appointed by this government. Ali Sujau was the first to hold the post. He was succeeded by Ismail Naveen.

Sujau resigned under pressure following a series of youth protests over the investigation into the fall of a young woman from a building in Male' last year.
