Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has met with the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla during his official visit to India.
During the meeting, Abdul Raheem commended the arrangements for the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth in New Delhi.
He said planning and organizing such a conference is an important step by the Lok Sabha to strengthen cooperation among the legislatures.
Abdul Raheem highlighted the relationship between India and the Maldives and discussed areas where the two countries could further strengthen ties.
During the meeting, Om Birla highlighted the progress made in digitization of the Indian Parliament and the role of the Lok Sabha’s Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) in training its staff.
He said India is ready to share its experience in digital innovations and other key areas with the Maldives.
This is Abdul Raheem's second official visit to India. He previously visited India in February 2025 at the invitation of the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
