Male' Maldives: This election follows the adoption of a new constitution and the appointment of Ishfan Mohamed (Ippa) as the association's new president on November 22.
Under the newly approved governance framework, the BAM Executive Committee is comprised of eight members, including the President, two Vice Presidents, four representatives, and one specifically designated athletes' representative. The new rules have also transitioned the roles of General Secretary and Treasurer from elected committee positions to appointed roles, a change intended to increase administrative accountability.
According to the association’s governing rules, an athletes' representative must be elected within 60 days of the main Electoral Congress, with the voting process limited strictly to individual members. As Adeem was the sole candidate to apply for the position during the open nomination period, he was officially confirmed for the role later.
Adeem, the newly elected athletes' representative, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the manager of the national badminton team during some of its most historic achievements.
He was the team manager in 2019 when Aminath Nabeeha (Nabee) secured a gold medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG). That same year, he managed the squad when Zayan Zaki and Fathimath Nabaha (Naba) won gold at a BWF tournament in Pakistan, marking the first time the Maldives had ever secured a gold medal in a BWF-sanctioned event.Ahmed Adeem has been elected to represent athletes on the Executive Committee of the Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM).
