Indian media have reported that a doctor arrested in connection with the car bomb attack in New Delhi worked in the Maldives for three years.
The blast took place on November 10 at the Red Fort area of Delhi, with an ancient site and is frequented by a large number of tourists. At least 14 people were killed and 40 others injured in the attack.
According to Indian media, the suspect in custody is Dr. Parvez Ansari, who works as an assistant professor at the Integral University of Lucknow. He worked in the Maldives for three years until 2021.
Media reports say authorities are checking to see if any suspected terrorists visited the Maldives while Parvez was in the country. It is unclear where Parvez was employed in the Maldives.
Parvez is the brother of Dr. Shaheen Shahid, who was also detained in connection with the bomb blast.
The investigation will look into whether Parvez met anyone who was monitored by international intelligence agencies during his time in the Maldives.
Reports say the bomb was believed to have been detonated by Shaheen using a remote control. Their terrorist cell has been named the "White Collar Terror Module" by the media. Parvez was recruited by Shahin for the cell, according to newspapers.
According to the media, Shaheen recruited Parvez to the cell. NDTV said that Parvez had also worked to recruit members to the cell.
