Residents from Fuvahmulah city have said many households are still without a water supply despite Fenaka Corporation announcing that the issue with the water supply had been resolved.
Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Najah told Adhadhu that they have resumed water supply in Fuvahmulah, but it takes time as Fenaka employees need to visit each household to resume the service.
"They started work last night. But since most houses were locked last night, they started productively this morning. We are hoping to finish before noon, that is about 2000 households," he said.
But more than 20 households told Adhadhu that they were still waiting for the water service to resume.
Adhadhu conducted this survey by collecting information from households in all the districts of the city. These include houses with cross connections and houses using only supply water.
A senior employee of the city council confirmed that water service has not resumed to the households so far. The council has not been officially informed that the service was resuming, the employee said.
There were protests yesterday and last night over the suspension of water service. The protesters said this is a major failure of the government and called for President Mohamed Muizzu's resignation.
On Tuesday afternoon, government Spokesperson Heena Waleed said water service will resume in about six hours.
She made the announcement on social media at 2:51 pm. But the southern city of about 10,000 people remains without water.
The government has not commented on why it has failed to provide water service within six hours, as announced yesterday.
Sources from Fuvahmulah told Adhadhu that there were about 150 tourists staying on the island, as it experiences a water crisis.
