Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Najah has said water services will resume in Fuvahmulah city this evening.
Najah told Adhadhu that the state utility company was working to find a permanent solution before resuming the service.
"We are hoping to begin supplying water this evening. We are trying to find a permanent solution by working on plant repair and pipeline repair," he said.
He added that efforts were underway to repair an out-of-service water plant to bring a permanent solution to the issue in Fuvahmulah.
Najah said the city does not need a new water plant, and the problem is cross connections between houses.
On Tuesday afternoon, government Spokesperson Heena Waleed said water service will resume in about six hours.
She made the announcement on social media at 2:51 pm. But the southern city of about 10,000 people remains without water.
The government has not commented on why it has failed to provide water service within six hours, as announced yesterday.
Sources from Fuvahmulah told Adhadhu that there were about 150 tourists staying on the island, as it experiences a water crisis.
Residents protested in Fuvahmulah yesterday and called for the resignation of Najah and President Mohamed Muizzu.
