Manama, Bahrain: The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) has expressed great pride in the nation’s performance at the Asian Youth Games, describing it as a progress for the country’s young athletes.

Swimming team and Athletics team of Maldives achieved numerous National records and Beach Volleyball Women's team reached the quarter final.

MOC Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed (Thamoo) praised both the athletes and their coaches for the progress demonstrated throughout the competition, noting that the results reflect dedication and planned trainings.

“I was able to talk to all the coaches and they were very happy with the results,” Thamooh said.

“More importantly, they saw progress even within the games, from one event to the next. We witnessed national records and personal bests being achieved, which gives our athletes motivation to keep striving. All the coaches confirmed that the athletes were able to apply what they had learned in training, which is exactly what we aim for.”

Thamooh emphasized that this momentum would have a lasting impact on the Maldives’ sporting landscape.

“Our athletes have shown that they are capable of reaching their targets, some even exceeded them,” he said.

“This experience has opened their eyes to new possibilities, and that will benefit the entire sporting system as these young athletes represent our future.”

As attention now shifts toward the upcoming Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) in Riyadh, preparations are well underway. “All our teams have been training at their best to perform strongly,”

Thamooh noted. “The ISG Organizing Committee is doing a great job. We’ve had the chance to visit the athletes’ village and venues, which are in excellent condition. Of course, there are always a few areas for improvement, and we’ve shared our feedback during the Chef de Mission meetings.”

The Maldives’ contingent for the ISG includes 49 athletes across four sports, Athletics, Handball, Swimming, and Table Tennis, supported by media and medical personnel, bringing the total delegation to 73 individuals.

Athletics: 1 Male, 1 Female

Handball: 1 Male Team, 1 Female Team

Swimming: 5 Male, 4 Female

Table Tennis: 3 Male, 3 Female

The delegation will be led by Chef de Mission Mohamed Jaushan Shareef and Deputy Chef de Mission Mariyam Saufa.
