The Finance Ministry has ordered the Information Commissioner's Office (ICOM) to stop paying the living allowance to its employees.
According to an audit report, the ICOM has been paying a living allowance to its employees since January 2024.
Adhadhu has obtained a copy of the ministry letter ordering ICOM to stop the allowance starting this month.
The letter states that the allowance violates the public finances rules, national pay policy act and three circulars issued in 2022.
It added that the ministry will inform a procedure to follow in order to recover the money paid as living allowance.
ICOM has not yet commented on the matter.
ICOM employees have been working from home for the past five months because the state failed to provide a headquarters.
The office previously operated in Billoorijehige which is in need of urgent repairs. ICOM decided to work from home because of the poor working environment.
