The Maldives government has requested the removal of Seychelles Honorary Consul Mohamed Firaq.
Firaq is the owner of Inner Maldives and has been increasing vocal on policies affecting the Maldives.
Adhadhu understands that the request for his removal was put forward by the Maldives Foreign Ministry.
The Seychelles government has not yet taken a decision. Firaq has been serving as the Honorary Consul for several years now.
In a post on X, the businessman said he worked to help President Mohamed Muizzu come to power.
"This not only shows a lack of self-confidence within the government. It will tarnish the country's diplomatic image and make other countries question the democratic qualities and fairness in the country," he wrote.
Firaq said he has served as the Honorary Consul during the past three administration and that no government had tried to remove him over differing opinions.
