PayPal to be launched in Maldives in collaboration with Ooredoo Fintech

Ooredoo Fintech and PayPal are working to launch PayPal services in Maldives next year.

In a post on X, the telecommunication company said they were actively working on finalizing details of the partnership.

"Expected to go live in 2026, consumers will be able to shop with PayPal merchants globally, and transfer funds between their PayPal and m-Faisaa accounts. Maldivian businesses will also be able to reach and sell to new customers overseas, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s journey toward a fully digital economy," it stated.

The Economic Ministry said in a statement that the collaboration was facilitated after overcoming many challenges.

"Extensive work has been done with PayPal and relevant stakeholders over the past two years to introduce this service," it stated.

According to PayPal, it is a fast, secure way to pay online. The service can be used to make purchases at millions of online stores across more than 200 global markets without having to convert any currency.
