Hulhumale' Maldives: After two years of frustration and near misses, HPSN have finally reached the summit, defeating Club Binara 3-1 in a high-stakes final to win the Club Maldives Classic 2025. It was more than just a victory, it was redemption.
The two sides had already met in the group stage, where Binara emerged victorious. But when they faced off again in the final, HPSN came back with intent, determination, and a point to prove. Goals from Mohamed Shaheem and Ahmed Rilwan put them in control early on.
Though Binara pulled one back late in the match through Ibrahim Namy, it wasn’t enough to derail HPSN. Rilwan’s second goal sealed the deal and wrote a new chapter in the club’s journey.
This win wasn’t just about one match. It was the culmination of years of heartbreak and growth. In the inaugural Club Maldives Cup in 2023, HPSN were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Transport Recreation Club, a team they went on to beat in this year’s Round of 16. Last year, another quarter-final exit followed, this time at the hands of Club 220. But 2025 told a different story. HPSN stayed the course, overcame their obstacles, and claimed the title that had eluded them.
Leading from the backline was captain Ahmed Shoon, better known as Chamey, who was named Best Player of the Tournament (Kings of Classic). His commanding presence throughout the competition helped drive his team to success. He was joined in the top five players of the tournament by fellow HPSN stars Mohamed Solah and goalkeeper Ahmed Sameer, alongside Binara’s Ali Irufaad and Mohamed Anoof Nashid.
Behind the scenes, head coach Mohamed Shaneez was recognized for his tactical brilliance and leadership with the Master of Club Maldives Classic (Best Coach) award. Meanwhile, Hassan Solah (Hattey) of Hulhumale Hospital walked away with the Top Scorer title, having netted a remarkable 14 goals during the competition.
There were also awards for sportsmanship: Yaish Musthafa of Criminal Court Recreation Club was named Fair Player, while Club Binara received the Fair Play Team trophy, a nod to their spirit despite falling short in the final.
For HPSN, this title is more than silverware. It’s the reward for patience, persistence, and belief, and a moment they’ll remember for years to come.
