Fuvahmulah Mayor Ali Rafeeq has expressed concern over the temporary closure of the city's airport.
Adhadhu understands that the airport operation was suspended on Monday evening due to an issue with the fire truck.
"We have to plan to prevent this from happening in the future. We have spoken to both the airport company and the government," Rafeeq said.
"The fire truck had faced problems in the past," he added.
Fuvahmulah airport operations have not resumed, but efforts are underway to transport a fire truck from Addu city's Gan.
"Hopefully the airport will be brought into operation tomorrow morning," the mayor said.
Fuvahmulah is also a popular destination for local tourism, with both local and international visitors regularly flying to the island.
There are usually two flights a day to the southern city. The mayor said there is a high demand for flight seats.
"This has caused major losses. Tourists missed their connection flights. Some guesthouses were waiting for 12 or 14 visitors," Rafeeq said.
Fuvahmulah is far from the capital Male' and is not easily accessible by sea. Many lives have been lost when boats tried to get near the island's coast.
The city's airport was inaugurated in 2011, bringing relief and convenience to the island's population of about 14,000 people.
