Maldives has signed 11 agreements with the Chinese government during President Mohamed Muizzu's visit to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
As a general rule, the names of the agreements signed during Muizzu's visits are disclosed by the President's Office. However, no names or details were released on Tuesday.
"A total of eleven Memoranda of Understanding and Agreements were signed during the ceremony, aimed at further strengthening bilateral collaboration across key sectors, including capacity building, economic development, infrastructure, and renewable energy," the President's Office said.
When questioned about the details, the President's Office said information will be available from the Foreign Ministry. But the Foreign Ministry has not yet provided this information.
Adhadhu has now submitted a Right to Information (RTI) request to the President's Office.
The President's Office said the agreements underscore the shared commitment of both nations to deepen the longstanding partnership and explore new avenues of cooperation to promote sustainable development and mutual prosperity.
