Jumhooree Party (JP) has said that it is considering legal action against former President Abdulla Yameen for his remarks against party leader Qasim Ibrahim and his son Siyad Qasim.

JP said its legal team is looking into action against Yameen for making unsubstantiated false statements about Qasim and Siyad during his appearance on the Etherefuh talk show on Adhadhu.

“The JP lawyers are looking into what legal action can be taken against Yameen for making unsubstantiated lies about Qasim Ibrahim and his son,” the party said.

Yameen alleged that Qasim and Siyad had bought flats in Malaysia and Hulhumale' for justices who ensured their release in 2018.

He claimed that documents about how Qasim and Siyad bribed Supreme Court justices were in the government's possession. He said that Siyad gave the letter on behalf of Qasim to guarantee the purchase of the flats.

"Look at who bought houses for the Supreme Court justices in Malaysia in the 2018 Supreme Court order. Look at who bought flats. Then look at who signed the guarantee to buy the flats in Hulhumale'," he said.

"The government will still have the documents. Who underwrote the guarantee to buy the flats and gave the document on behalf of Qasim? Ask Qasim's children. If you look at it, you will know why Qasim's son was arrested. Because of a bribe."

Yameen also alleged that his half-brother, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was arrested during his government because he, too, had bribed Supreme Court justices.

In response, Maumoon's office maintained that the Supreme Court order issued in February 2018 has no connection with the former President.

The office also said they were considering legal action against Yameen for making false allegations.
