The government has reimbursed Vaavu atoll council for the arrangements made for President Mohamed Muizzu's visit to Felidhoo last year.

The money was reimbursed more than a year later after a social media post.

In a post on X, atoll council President Shujau Ali said the council had incurred expenses for arranging Muizzu's visit to Felidhoo in March last year.

He expressed concern as the money had not been reimbursed more than a year after his visit.

"Councils don't want President Muizzu to visit islands like this [without paying for council expenses] to meet councillors," he wrote in the post.

Shujau told Adhadhu that the atoll council had spent MVR 134,000 for the President’s trip.

He said the money was deposited on Sunday after 17 months.

The government's financial situation has deteriorated resulting in unpaid electricity bills from government officers and pending payments to private companies.
