The tent set up by Official Events for the Maldives Expo 2025 at Hulhumale' Central Park in late May was taken down on Sunday after more than two months.
Official Events was repeatedly told to remove the tent from the public park managed by Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Adhadhu reported about how the tent's structure remained in the park for two months.
But the structure was taken down on Sunday morning following criticism as the tent was taking up space in the public park.
HDC leases space from the park for various purposes, but the tent had been in the park for the past two months without any charge.
People who spoke with Adhadhu said no action was taken against Official Events because of the political power of its shareholder Baarashu MP Ibrahim Shujau.
The issue has been exacerbated by two separate announcements by the Tourism Ministry and HDC to purchase a large tent.
Some social media users described it as corruption to purchase the tent at the Central Park. Neither the Tourism Ministry nor the HDC has commented.
