The state-owned Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has announced plans to directly export fish from Addu city.
In a statement, MIFCO said value added fish will be exported from Addu within the next month and the value adding process can begin in Addu later this year.
"Instead of taking the fish purchased from Addu to Huvadhu, we plan to start exporting it directly from Addu within the next months," MIFCO stated.
The company said multiple efforts were underwat to develop the fisheries sector, including projects in Kooddoo.
"Work to repair roads near the harbor, upgrading the local production factory in Kooddoo and the urgent repair and maintenance of the Felivaru cannery are scheduled to commence this August," MIFCO revealed.
MIFCO said the biggest challenge facing the company is the delay in repairs to vehicles, infrastructure and machinery.
