MP Shujau removed from SOE committee

Baarashu MP and ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Vice-President Ibrahim Shujau has been removed from the parliament's State Owned Enterprises (SOE) committee.

This comes after a report prepared by the central bank's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) was leaked on social media, accusing him of corruption and unjust enrichment. Shujau was the chairperson of the SOE committee.

He has now been replaced by Ihavandhoo MP Ahmed Naseer. The committee oversees the affairs of state-owned companies.

Meanwhile, Huraa MP Anara Naeem was replaced by Vilufushi MP Hassan Waheed on the Judiciary Committee.

Earlier on Monday, Shujau was removed from the Public Accounts Committee and transferred to the National Development and Heritage Committee.

Shujau's cases were investigated by the MMA's Financial Intelligence Unit. Police said they were also investigating after the report was leaked on social media.

However, police did not say when they began the investigation or what action had been taken so far.
