Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri today said that relations between India and the Maldives have become stronger despite the India Out movement led by President Mohamed Muizzu.
Muizzu was very critical of India when he was an opposition figure during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. After assuming office in late 2023, he continued to indirectly launch verbal attacks on India.
But, speaking at a press conference today, Misri said that relations had become stronger despite the India Out movement.
“We will look to the future rather than the past,” Misri said.
He added that Muizzu's visit to India in October last year and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's current visit to the Maldives are proof of the good relations between the two countries.
