Prime Minister Narendra Modi today assured that India will always provide assistance to the Maldives and will always prioritize friendship.
Speaking after official talks between the two countries, Modi said India would always provide assistance to the Maldives as it had done in the past.
"India will always be with Maldives. Whether it is first responding to emergencies or providing essential food items or helping to manage the economy, India will always extend assistance to Maldives," Modi said.
He noted that the two countries have been strengthening their maritime relations since the agreement was signed in October 2024.
"India's policy is to give priority to friendly countries. During President Muizzu's visit to India last October, an agreement was signed to strengthen economic and maritime ties. That is now being achieved. As a result, the relations between the two countries are improving," he said.
Modi stressed that the new Coast Guard building, which was inaugurated today and built with the assistance of the Indian government, is a strong symbol of the relationship between the two countries.
He assured that India will continue to assist in enhancing the capabilities of the Maldivian military.
"India will always help enhance the capabilities of the Maldivian military. Ensuring the security and safety of the region is the goal of both countries," Modi said.
This is Modi's third visit to the Maldives. He previously visited the country in 2018 and 2019. He is the first head of state to visit the Maldives during the Muizzu administration.
