Tourism Ministry statistics have shown that tourist arrivals rose by nine percent so far this year.

According to the latest figures released on Monday, 1.1 million tourists visited the Maldives by July 6. This is an increase of 9.2 percent compared to the same period last year.

China is the largest source market, followed by Russia and the UK. The three countries accounted for 34.2 percent of the total tourist arrivals.

The Indian market, which has been declining since last year, remains in sixth place. Only 68,218 tourists have arrived from the country this year.

Despite the rising tourist arrivals, the duration of their stay is getting shorter.

According to the latest Monthly Economic Update released by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), the average duration of a vacation was 7.8 days as of April last year, compared to 6.9 days this year.

Resort occupancy rate has also dropped to 60 percent from 62 percent in by April 2024.
