The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has recovered the body of a tourist who went missing earlier today while swimming near Kandooma thila, close to K. Maafushi.
In a statement to the media, the MNDF confirmed that the body was discovered at approximately 5:20 PM and retrieved shortly thereafter by divers from the MNDF Malé Area Command, Coast Guard Second Squadron.
The identity and gender of the tourist, who is of Japanese nationality, have not yet been disclosed.
Reports suggest that multiple individuals have gone missing during diving activities in the area in recent times, with some cases resulting in fatalities due to drowning.
