The Parliament Secretariat has announced that it is now accepting applications for membership in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
According to a public notice issued by the secretariat, the deadline for submitting applications is 12:00 PM on July 3.
Parliament is constitutionally mandated to appoint one member to the JSC to represent the general public. The term of membership is five years.
The JSC is comprised of 10 members, and the current representative of the public is Dr. Aiminath Ummukulsoom.
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Must be a Muslim
- Must be a citizen of the Maldives
- Must be at least 30 years old
- Must not have been convicted by a trial court of a crime such as a cognizable offence, fraud, or bribery under Islamic law
- Must not hold any political office elected or appointed under the Constitution or any law
- Must not be a member of or actively involved in any political party
Interested individuals who meet these criteria are encouraged to submit their applications before the deadline.
