President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have departed for Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.
They were accompanied by a large government delegation. The President's Office said the Saudi government is hosting the delegation during their stay.
The delegation includes Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel and his spouse, Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu and his spouse, Chief Imam of the Islamic Centre Sheikh Mohamed Latheef and his spouse and Chief of Protocol Mohamed Shahudy.
The Saudi government allocated 1000 hajj quotas for the Maldives for 2025. The pilgrims are now in Saudi Arabia. They travelled on two Maldivian flights and two Saudia Airlines flights.
The pilgrims usually spend 20 or 25 days on the pilgrimage. However, the government has shortened the trip to 15 days. The pilgrims have not received any discount despite the reduction in the duration of the pilgrimage.
