The master plan for Hulhumale' has been revised and revealed today with major changes.
One of the biggest changes in the master plan released by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is linking Hulhumale' Phase 3 with Phases 2 and 1. It also includes increasing the services available in Phase 2 and the expansion of the harbour area.
In the previous master plan, a bridge connects the three phases of Hulhumale'. But the new master plan includes land reclamation to link Phase 3 with Phases 2 and 1. This will increase the connectivity of the phases.
Under the new master plan, the existing harbour will be expanded and about 20 hectares will be added. The size of the existing harbour is 36 hectares. The harbour will be expanded to 53 hectares.
The HDC said the new land use plan will convert vacant spaces and green areas into more public use. The new plan includes 2.5 square meters of vacant space per person.
The residential area has been redesigned to provide easier access to services and increase accessibility. HDC said the plans for the residential area have been changed to improve the living standards.
Under the new plan, 29 percent of the land is for residential use while 10 percent of the land is for mosques, schools and other institutions. Five percent of the land is reserved for commercial use. Five percent of land was also reserved for industrial purposes and 30 percent of the land has been reserved for vacant areas, green areas and sports facilities.
