The new academic year began on Monday with 90,000 students and 11,000 teachers.
In the new academic year, 84,000 students and 10,000 teachers are enrolled in government schools, while more than 6,000 students and more than 1,000 teachers are enrolled in private schools.
Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu told Adhadhu that the new academic year began after all the necessary preparations were completed to ensure the right to education.
"Whether it is books, vouchers or teachers, everything is completed. I am very happy. I would like to note that this is the first time in recent history that books have been provided in a timely and organized manner," he said.
The number of students who migrated from the islands to schools in Male' has remained almost the same as last year.
The first term of the new academic year will continue until July 24, while the second term will start on August 10. Students will go on their annual holiday on December 28.
