Justice Hussain Shaheedh has been appointed to represent the Supreme Court on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Adhadhu understands that the Supreme Court Justices made the decision on Wednesday. But he has not yet been officially appointed to the JSC.
Justice Husnu Suood, who previously represented the Supreme Court on JSC, recently resigned in protest of intimidation and influence.
Shaheedh, who was the Chief Justice of the High Court, was appointed to the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy following Suood's resignation.
He was appointed to the Supreme Court on March 19. His appointment was approved by a unanimous vote of 64 MPs in the People's Majlis.
Some Supreme Court judges earlier alleged the government of obstructing justice with the suspension of three judges and an amendment to the Judicature Act.
Justices Suood, Mahaz Ali Zahir and Dr. Azmiralda Zahir were suspended shortly after the People's Majlis approved a government-proposed bill to remove two judges to alter the court's bench from seven to five members.
This came as the apex court was preparing to continue hearings on a constitutional case related to MP disqualification. The full bench of the court must be present to hear constitutional cases.
