Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Azaan has called for the resignation of Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Najah for failing to resolve the electricity issues facing Hithadhoo and connected islands in Addu city.
Fenaka had earlier said the problem would be solved for Ramadan. At the time, Fenaka said, a 1.8 MW generator set was being delivered under an agreement with State Electric Company (STELCO).
But power cuts have continued during Ramadan with prolonged hours announced yesterday after a problem was reported with a generator.
"FENAKA’s MD said he would resign if he couldn't provide a solution before Ramadan. That time has come. He must now step down," Azaan wrote in a post on X.
Addu, the second most populous city in the Maldives, has been facing frequent power outages since early last year. The government has given various deadlines to resolve the issue.
