Thalassemia patients and their families staged a protest last night demanding the resignation of senior officials at the Maldives Blood Services (MBS).
They told an Adhadhu journalist that a meeting with senior officials to resolve issues had ended without any progress and they now want the heads to resign.
The issue escalated after a large number of blood bags were thrown away due to low-quality filters used in the process of collecting blood from donors.
Thalassemia patients first shared their concerns on social media.
The meeting was adjourned last night after protestors began demanding resignations. They were gathered in front of the Thalassemia Centre in Male'.
