The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has said it decided to hold a closed-door hearing in the disciplinary investigation of Supreme Court Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir because an open hearing could harm the public interest.
Azmiralda had earlier requested the JSC for public hearings.
Article 28 of the JSC Act allows public hearings and the commission had previously conducted such hearings in disciplinary cases of judges.
In a letter to Azmiralda, the JSC said the decision to have closed-door hearings was made by the investigative committee and approved by the unanimous votes of JSC members during a meeting today.
Azmiralda was first asked to appear before the commission at 11:00 am today. But the hearing was later postponed to tomorrow.
Her disciplinary case began amid a constitutional case on MP disqualification.
JSC suspended her after announcing that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was conducting a criminal investigation against her.
Azmiralda is accused of influencing Criminal Court judges to release her husband, who was arrested during a police raid at a spa.
